What in the world happened? Everything was on the up and up for the most part. Gas was cheap, my retirement fund guaranteed me a golden age, I had more credit than I knew what to do with, prices were low, everyone was buying anything and everything and America still was a manufacturing giant. Yes the grass was green, the sun was shining, the wine was flowing and the birds were singing.
Now it is 2010. Gas is far from cheap, my retirement fund guarantees me a slave wage, I have no idea what credit even means, everyone is struggling to put food on the table, global warming allegedly has killed my grass and I'm pretty sure any wine being consumed these days is from a glass made in China.
Who would have ever thought 10 or fifteen years ago we would be here. I guess it is our fault really; it was us that fell asleep at the wheel. We let our public servants over the decades be bought off by corporate interest, we gave them more control over our lives for the sake of safety, we allowed them to steal our hard earned money just to be given away to elitist, we allowed and even justified jobs being moved elsewhere, we the American people spent an unbelievable amount of money just because some pathetic, self gratifying television commercial told us too. We unquestionably believe everything that is told to us by the nightly news.
A fork in the road for this nation is fast approaching. Which way do we go? Do we keep believing that our leaders care about us? Keep believing that they have America's best interest in their hearts? Keep believing that everything is going to be ok courtesy of the advertising propaganda that is spoon fed to us every night? or do we say enough is enough and take a stand. Do we turn off the television and start doing something to make this country great again? Do we start taking responsibility for our own finances and our own lives? Do we start making our public servants accountable for the decisions that they make? How about we start doing something? Because if we don’t do something soon there may not be an America to stand up for.

I know exactly what you mean, sometimes I feel that I contribute more to the problems than I do trying to solve.
